2023 Taiwan LPGA Tour | Da Da DIGITAL Ladies Open 27 – 29 Sep Final-Round Recap
Date:2023-09-29

36-hole leader Chang Ya-Chun (張雅淳) wasted a three-shot advantage but finally took the victory after a two-hole play-off at the NT$3-million Da Da Digital Ladies Open. The win was worth NT$540,000.

Chang bogeyed the 18th hole today at the Tong Hwa Golf & Country Club to complete the final-round on 7-under 209 after an even-par 72, letting Chen Szu-Han (陳思涵) level things up and force the play-off.

In fact, it was Chen who earned the chance on the first play-off hole for the putt to win it all. However, to her disappointment, the ball circled the cup and rolled away to get them back back to the tee.

On the second play-off hole, Chen had another birdie chance, from 40 feet. This time, the attempt went long, leaving a 6-footer to potentially extend the tie-breaker to the third one. She, unfortunately, failed to convert as Chang won the hole with a par, finally sealing her second career victory in the bag.

“I really earned this one,” said Chang, referring to her maiden TLPGA Tour win at last year’s Wistron Ladies Open which came after a final-round cancellation due to weather (winning by one shot with a 36-hole total of 1-over 145).

Chen could be proud the way she came from three shots behind on the 16th hole, from where she reeled off three consecutive birdies and rekindled the winning hopes.

“I was doing pretty well on the front nine, made a great 22-footer on the second hole to get things going,” said Chen. “I struggled a little with my short game around the turn, but I’m glad I was able to finish the round so strongly and take it to the play-off.”

Starting the round in the final group with Chang and Chen, Lynn Chiu (邱齡緹) picked up a shot on the third hole but couldn’t string her good shots together on the rest of the day, carding two bogeys and finishing in a tie for third on 5-under 211 with An Ho-Yu (安禾佑).

An fired an impressive five birdie in tough conditions today, committing two bogeys along the way. “The ball got stuck in the tree on the 8th hole, which took me an extra shot to finish. I had another bad miss on the 12th before it got caught by the water. But apart from these two holes, I think I was playing a great, aggressive brand of golf. The birdie on the 17th from 20 yards was like a cherry on top. It was great to know I finish in the top-3,” An said.

This week on the TLPGA Tour was the second annual Da Da Digital Ladies Open with a NT$3-million prize pool. Da Da is a broadband service company in Taiwan initiated by the locally-renowned Da Feng cable company, which hopes to facilitate positive social relationships and connections through sporting events and various charitable endeavors organized by the Da Da Foundation.
