Lu Yun-Ping (盧芸屏) carded a stellar 67 today to take a one-stroke solo lead after the opening round of the KGI BANK TLPGA Futures. The NT$1.5 million TLPGA Tour event kicked off today at Sunrise Golf & Country Club, with the layout set at 6,140 yards for the professional.
Despite not competing at Sunrise for quite some time, Lu found her rhythm early, sharing the lead at 4-under at the turn. "I took advantage of the par-5s pretty well today. Made three birdies. The work I’ve put into my short game definitely helped," Lu said.
"My ball-striking was very consistent, hitting 15 greens in regulation. Even though my body felt a bit out of sync and my drives were slightly shorter than usual, I kept the ball in the fairway, which made my approach shots much easier." Lu added that she has focused heavily on her mental game over the past three years, and she felt the efforts started to show this year; she felt particularly dialed in today!
The hunt for the lead is crowded, with a six-way tie for second place at 4-under 68. An Ho-Yu (安禾佑), Lai Yi-Ting (賴怡廷), Kuo Ai-Chen (郭艾榛), Shih Cheng-Hsuan (石澄璇), Yang Ya-Pin (楊亞賓), and Hung Chieh-Ning (洪婕寧) are all just one shot back heading into the second round.
An Ho-Yu, returning to competition after a month-long break, was pleased with her clean scorecard. "That was my first bogey-free round of the year. My iron play felt great, though I struggled a bit on the back nine to keep the momentum going," she said. "The shorter yardage this week gave me more chances to attack, and while the pin positions at Sunrise are always a challenge, I’m happy I managed to avoid any bogeys."
Lai Yi-Ting recovered from two early bogeys on the 3rd and 4th holes to stay near the top of the leaderboard. "I had to scramble to save par on several holes, so I’m glad I could hold it together and put myself in a good position," Lai said.
Meanwhile, Yang Ya-Pin (楊亞賓) continued her strong form in the Futures series, needing only 25 putts today. "Slowing down my swing rhythm has really helped me create more birdie opportunities," Yang explained.
Kuo Ai-Chen relied on excellent iron game but felt she missed out by not scoring on the par-5s, leaving her in the tie for second. Shih Cheng-Hsuan took an aggressive approach that led to two dropped shots early on, but she quickly adjusted to snatch back six birdies for a 68.
Hung Chieh-Ning stayed steady throughout the day with a high greens-in-regulation rate, capping her round with a birdie on the 18th to join the chase.
This week’s backdrop, Sunrise Golf & Country Club, is a cornerstone of Taiwanese golf. As the nation’s first premier training base, it has served as a center for the Asian Games and Universiade squads, functioning as a vital launchpad for elite players heading to the international stage.
The 2026 KGI BANK TLPGA Futures runs from April 21 to 23. Thursday’s champion will take home a winner’s check of NT$263,000.
