Japan’s Shuri Sakuma, a four-time titlist and the official money winner of the 2025 JLPGA Tour, carded a 70 today at the TLPGA and JLPGA Tour co-sanctioned Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament. This marked her second consecutive sub-par round under difficult conditions at Taoyuan’s Orient Golf and Country Club, propelling her to the top of the leaderboard.
Overnight leader Nook Sukapan of Thailand, who opened with a 65, struggled under pressure in the second round. She recorded four bogeys and two double bogeys against just a single birdie, finishing with a 7-over 79. With a two-round total of 144, she now sits in solo second place, three strokes behind the lead.
Taiwanese player Chen Min-Jou (陳敏柔) made significant progress today. A spectacular chip-in eagle on the 5th hole helped push her up the rankings, and her second-round 72 made her the top-performing local player so far. Chen is currently tied for third at 1-over 145 alongside Japanese players Yuzuki Yoshizawa, Karen Tsuruoka, and Shina Kanazawa.
Despite a shaky start with back-to-back bogeys on the 3rd and 4th holes, World No.39 Shuri Sakuma stabilized her round with a birdie on the 5th.
"My feel improved on the back nine, especially after an eagle on the difficult 10th hole, which gave me a lot of confidence," said the Japanese player. "However, my putting still has room for improvement. I missed a little too many par putts today." Sakuma is now eyeing her second consecutive victory following her recent win at the Daikin Orchid Ladies Golf Tournament.
Taiwanese Chen Min-Jou relied on her short game to stay in contention on Day 2. "It was not easy. The winds were getting messy. My chipping really saved me today," Chen said. "If it stays this windy over the weekend, Ill be prioritizing my fairway percentage first and taking it from there."
Overnight leader Nook Sukapan struggled to maintain her momentum, carding a 7-over 79 to fall three strokes behind Sakuma. Starting on the 10th hole today, her round was derailed by a double bogey on the 18th, followed by another on the 7th.
"The unpredictable gusts and direction made it very difficult to hit through it," Sukapan noted. "The pins are really tough and the greens are fast. Any little mistake will cost you. Right now, I just want to have a good meal, do something relaxing, and get some sleep to recharge for tomorrow’s challenge."
Hon Hai ambassador Wu Chia-Yen (吳佳晏) missed the cut after carding an 80 for a two-round total of 156. “It’s disappointing to miss the weekend, especially with the support I’ve had here,” Wu said. “I just couldn’t quite find my rhythm this week. Now I’m heading back to the JLPGA Tour and hopefully getting my game back on track as soon as possible.”
Following the conclusion of today’s second round, the cut was made at a total score of 154, sending 55 players into the weekend.
