Korean power hitter Lee Yunseo carded a stellar 6-under 66 today at Summit Point Golf and Country Club to seize the clubhouse lead after the opening round of the ICTSI Philippine Ladies Masters.
Trailing Lee by just one stroke is a trio of players at 5-under 67, including fellow KLPGA campaigners Kang Jisun and Kang Jeonghyeon, alongside Thailand’s Navaporn Soontreeyapas, representing the TLPGA Tour.
Korea’s Park Sohye sits alone in fifth at 4-under, while Huang Ting-Hsuan (黃亭瑄) and Lee Min (李旻) lead the charge from the Taiwanese. They are tied for sixth at 3-under 69 alongside Korea’s Joung Sejin.
After an uninspiring start, Lee found her rhythm in the afternoon, pouring in five birdies to separate herself from the field.
"The wind was quite strong, which made it difficult to fully take advantage of my distance off the tee," Lee said. "I had to rely on my short game, and fortunately, my irons were great today. The atmosphere here is a refreshing change from competing in Korea. I feel very motivated and want to see where my game stands against such a diverse field of players."
"The greens here are firmer than what we typically see in Korea. So, it definitely feels challenging, but really fun at the same time," said Kang Jeonghyeon. "My woods were very reliable today, which kind of shortened the course for me and created plenty of scoring opportunities."
For Huang Ting-Hsuan, who recently turned professional after topping the latest TLPGA Tour Q-Test, the round was a promising start to her rookie campaign. "The difference between the headwind and tailwind was quite significant today," Huang said. "It was not an easy round, but I’m pleased with how steady I played."
Lee Min, the 2025 TLPGA Year-End No. 2 and former LPGA Tour campaigner, took advantage of the calmer morning conditions to reach 14 greens in regulation.
"I found the greens to be softer today than during yesterday’s Pro-Am," Lee said. "That made it easier to attack the pins and calculate yardages, which helped me create more birdie looks."
The opening round also delivered a highlight-reel moment as Japan’s Senno Yasufuku aced the 151-yard, par-3 17th hole with a 7-iron, marking her first-ever hole-in-one on the TLPGA Tour.
Featuring a US$200,000 purse, the 54-hole tournament in Lipa City, Batangas, serves as the TLPGA Tour’s season opener for the first time. The competition is co-sanctioned by the TLPGA Tour, the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour (LPGT), and the KLPGA Tour, with backing from the Asia Golf Leaders Forum (AGLF).
The 123-player field, which includes 58 TLPGA members, will be cut to the top 60 and ties following Thursday’s second round. |
