Co-overnight leader Hung Jo-Hua (洪若華) kept her composure and maintained a steady rhythm in Friday’s final round of the BNP PARIBAS & TLPGA Heritage Tour, firing a 4-under 68 with five birdies against one bogey. Finishing with a 36-hole total of 6-under 138, she pulled away for a convincing four-stroke victory to capture her maiden professional title.
Tai Chia-Wen (戴嘉汶), who entered the day solo fourth, mounted an early charge with four front-nine birdies to close within a single stroke of the lead. However, her putter went cold on the back nine, preventing a comeback as she signed for a second straight 71 to finish runner-up at 2-under 142.
Hung credited her breakthrough victory to her putter coming alive over the two rounds at the Ta Shee Club. “Last week at the JLPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in Japan, I was averaging over 30 putts a round, but over these two days at Ta Shee Golf, I brought that down to around 27 putts,” Hung said.
“I tried not to look at the leaderboard during the round today. My coach always reminds me to just focus on my own rhythm and not rush things. I knew (Tai) Chia-Wen was playing great, but I just kept telling myself to stay aggressive, play my game, and not put too much pressure on myself. I think that’s what I did well today,” Hung mentioned. “I still have a lot to improve, especially my short game from within 100 yards. Seeing how precise the players in Japan were with their wedges last week was a huge learning experience for me.”
While missing out on her first trophy was disappointing, the runner-up finish marks Tai Chia-Wen’s best career finish on the TLPGA Tour. “My putter just wasn’t strong enough today. I had good birdie chances on 4, 13, 17, and 18 that didn’t drop. If a couple of those went in, I could’ve pushed for the title a little bit more. Still, this week’s result was good, showing the level of my improved fitness and some details in my game that I’ve been working hard on, and I’m looking forward to building on this momentum.”
First-round co-leader Huang Ting-Hsuan (黃亭瑄) stumbled early with three front-nine bogeys, but found her game on the back nine to minimize the damage. She closed with a 73 for a 1-under 143 total to secure solo third place.
“Having visited Taiwan so many times, it truly feels like my second home. I want to thank the TLPGA for their long-standing partnership. BNP PARIBAS has supported the TLPGA Heritage Tour for over a decade because we deeply resonate with the values it stands for, discipline, perseverance, and passing knowledge down to the next generation. It reflects our long-term commitment to Taiwan,” said Arnaud Tellier, CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management Asia Pacific, at the trophy ceremony. “We are proud to keep supporting this platform, giving young athletes the opportunity to gain experience, challenge themselves, and reach the next level.”
“Giving players across different generations the opportunity to compete and share knowledge on the course is the true essence of what the TLPGA Heritage Tour brings to Taiwanese golf. Since 2016, BNP PARIBAS has leveraged its global reach to elevate the TLPGA Tour, creating a unique place where emerging juniors and seasoned professionals play side-by-side. We are immensely grateful for BNP PARIBAS’s steadfast support of the TLPGA, as well as the outstanding team at Ta Shee Golf and Country Club for delivering quality conditions for this week’s event.” |
